Race 2:

I will take my chances against #2 Followhisfootsteps in this non-winners of three event. The Field Commission gelding has already had two shots at this level since being claimed by Victor Barboza back in December, including a well-beaten second on Mar. 26. The 4-year-old gelding has burnt a lot of money in his career and his lone victory dating back to last spring came as the 2-5-favorite in a race at a lower level. Pass.

I will use a few in here in hopes of beating the morning line favorite, including #9 Luckytobeinamerica who will be tough to beat on the surface switch if he can get out of the gate cleanly. I also give a chance to longshot #8 Beau Trace. The son of Beau Choix makes his third start of the form cycle after a solid runner-up effort versus slightly tougher on Mar. 6.

Race 3:

This state-bred special weight event looks like a two-horse race between #3 Victory Town and #6 Whiskey Sunrise. Victory Town came from well off the pace when finishing third, beaten two lengths in a race where frontrunners ran 1-2 to the wire on Mar. 14. The Live Oak Plantation colt may have been a bit short off the four-month break and will be tough to deny if he gets a lively pace to run at. #6 Whiskey Sunrise is a tough read after posting a 90 Brisnet Speed rating on debut last April for trainer Michael Yates. If he can replicate that performance he will extremely tough to run down, but one must wonder where the son of Cajun Breeze has been since that runner-up performance.

Race 4:

#2 Nikki and Papa broke terribly when taking on graded stakes company on debut for trainer Bob Hess Jr., but overcame the trouble to finish an impressive third. The $500,000 Mineshaft filly did not run as well in the Davona Dale (G2) in late February, but gets much needed class relief on Easter Sunday. If she can finally get out of the gate in good order she will be tough to deny.

#4 Saratoga Affair clearly looked the part when selling for $450,000 at the OBS April 2019 sale. The daughter of Paynter comes in of a strong series of works at Payson Park for trainer Chad Brown. She has the look of a very fast filly.

Race 5:

7-5-morning line chalk #2 Blue Magic looks tough to beat in the final leg. The 5-year-old mare drops in class after finishing second on Feb 9. The Mike Maker trainee moves to an inside post and attracts the services of Luis Saez. Her affinity for this course and a likely favorable setup for her late kick make her a deserving top choice. My single on a low budget ticket.

If you want to spread a bit deeper #9 Fiber Optic makes her initial start off the claim for trainer Bobby Dibona. She takes on open company after disposing of conditional foes in back-to-back races, but should get the jump on Blue Magic and will provide much greater value.
