t’s the middle game of an early week series on the diamond in the City of Brotherly Love between a pair of NL East rivals. The Miami Marlins are on the road as they play the middle game of a three-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies Wednesday night. Miami split a four-game set at home with Washington over the weekend, falling 5-1 in the finale Sunday afternoon. Philadelphia was drubbed 12-4 on the road by the Reds Monday in the makeup of a previously postponed contest. The Phillies edged the Marlins 4-3 on Tuesday.
With Cody Poteet back on the IL, it’s expected that Jordan Holloway will get the ball for his ninth appearance and third start of the season for the Marlins. He comes in 1-2 with a 2.55 ERA, a 1.189 WHIP, 10 walks and 14 strikeouts over 17.2 innings of work. Holloway didn’t factor in the decision in his last appearance, which came in relief at home against the Mets on May 21. He threw one scoreless inning, allowing no hits or walks while striking out one in a game the Marlins dropped 6-5 in 12 innings. Holloway is 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP, eight walks and seven strikeouts over 11.2 innings in five outings on the year. This marks his second career appearance and first start against the Phillies. In his major league debut, he threw one-third of an inning, allowing no runs on two hits with one walk and no strikeouts in an 11-6 Marlins win. Holloway made that appearance at Citizens Bank Park, giving him a passing familiarity with the venue.
