Thursday Night NFL Pick and Preview:

Jets @ Colts

This game’s line saw some significant movement due to Week 8 results. The early look-ahead spread released last week had the Colts, who at the time had won two straight games and looked to be finding their footing, as 14.0-to-14.5-point favorites against a Jets squad that had just one win on the season and was heading into a Week 8 matchup against the Bengals with rookie Mike White making his first start.

We know by now that New York’s game certainly didn’t go as expected. Robert Saleh’s squad staged a memorable fourth-quarter comeback to pull off a wild 34-31 upset victory. Meanwhile, the Colts blew a 14-0 early lead to eventually fall to the Titans, 34-31, in overtime.

With just one win now separating these two clubs and Gang Green flashing some unexpected offensive firepower even without Corey Davis (hip) on Sunday, the public jumped on New York. The result has been a 3.0-to-3.5-point narrowing of Indy’s original projected advantage, a trend that continues to have some staying power. The spread is currently Colts -10.5.

The total for this game has also been on the move, albeit in the opposite direction. The fact White threw for over 400 yards against a solid Cincy secondary and the Colts are dealing with a multitude of injuries in their own defensive backfield are certainly part of the reason for the number moving from an initial figure of 44 all the way up to 47 in the immediate aftermath of Sunday’s results. That number went back down to 46 on Tuesday afternoon and is now at 46 points.

The Colts have also been thriving offensively of late, scoring 25 or more points in five straight contests, including three consecutive tallies of at least 30. Carson Wentz derailed matters in Week 8 with two very ill-timed interceptions, but he’s mostly been strong in Frank Reich’s system.

Colts WR T.Y. Hilton, who has been banged up for most of the season, will miss Thursday’s game with a concussion.
