BIGGEST BAD BEAT OF THE WEEK
This wasn’t necessarily a textbook bad beat, but it was the best of the lot in Week 7.
If you played the Jacksonville Jaguars on the money line, you likely heard the term “game of inches” ad nauseum, while pounding down Pepto, or whiskey, to wash the bad taste away after this game.
The Jaguars took a 17-13 lead into the fourth quarter, but with 5:31 to go, New York Giants QB Daniel Jones punched one in from 1-yard out to make it 20-17. But that’s not the problem.
Giants PK Graham Gano split the uprights for a field goal from 34 yards out with 64 seconds left in regulation to make it 23-17, all but checking off the win for bettors backing Big Blue. But that’s not the problem.
QB Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars drove the field, and got into the red zone. With no a precious few seconds left, on the final play of the game, Lawrence hit WR Christian Kirk, who stretched for the goal-line. He was met at the New York 1 by CB Fabian Moreau, before safeties Julian Love and Xavier McKinney joined him for reinforcements, literally bending, but not breaking.
The loss for the Jaguars was to be expected, really, as Jacksonville has now dropped its past 19 against NFC teams. But this one was oh-so-close.
