Titans

A 34-3 win against the Dolphins in Nashville clinched the Titans’ second consecutive AFC South title. And thanks to the Chiefs’ loss to the Bengals, Tennessee is once again positioned to be the No. 1 seed in the AFC. Now the Titans just need to beat the Texans on the road in Week 18, though they already lost to Houston once this season.

Remaining schedule: at HOU

Chiefs

The AFC West champs’ winning streak came to an end in a 34-31 loss to the Bengals. It’s the Chiefs’ first loss since falling to the Titans in Week 7, snapping an NFL-best eight-game win streak.

Because of that loss against Tennessee, the Chiefs must finish with a better outright record than the Titans to secure the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye.

Remaining schedule: at DEN

Bengals

A win against the Chiefs clinched Cincinnati’s first AFC North title since 2015. The Bengals’ 8-3 conference record, which is the best in the AFC, gives them a chance for the No. 1 seed. They’d need the Chiefs and Titans to both lose in Week 18. The Bengals are ahead of the Bills because they have a better record vs. conference opponents.

Remaining schedule: at CLE

Bills

It wasn’t always pretty, but the Bills maintained their lead in the AFC East standings with a 29-15 against the Falcons. That victory and the Ravens’ loss to the Rams secured a playoff berth for the Bills.

Buffalo and New England split their head-to-head matchups, but the Bills’ 4-1 divisional record gives them the edge in the division standings over the Patriots, who are 3-2 against fellow AFC East teams. The Bills’ remaining divisional game is against the Jets, while the Patriots will play the Dolphins in Week 18.

Remaining schedule: vs. NYJ

Patriots

A comfortable win against the Jaguars and a Dolphins loss to the Titans clinched another playoff berth for Bill Belichick’s Patriots. To win the AFC East, New England needs to beat the Dolphins on the road in Week 18 and have the Bills lose to the Jets in Buffalo.

Remaining schedule: at MIA

Colts

The Colts would have clinched a playoff berth with a win against the Raiders at home Sunday, but they lost 23-20. Because the Colts are in a three-way tie with the Raiders and Chargers, all at 9-7, a head-to-head loss to the Raiders doesn’t hurt Indy here. The Chargers win the initial division tie break via head-to-head win percentage, and the Colts then jump the Chargers in the standings because they have the better conference record — 7-4 for Indy, 6-5 for the Chargers.

Remaining schedule: at JAX

Chargers

The Chargers moved into the final wild-card spot Sunday by dominating the Broncos. They are ahead of the Raiders based on their head-to head win in Week 4. But to make the playoffs, they need to beat them again in Week 18.

Remaining schedule: at LV

In the hunt

  • Raiders (9-7)
  • Steelers (7-7-1)
  • Ravens (8-8)

The Raiders are the first team out for now, but that will change with a head-to-head win vs. the Chargers in Week 18. The Chargers’ win Sunday vs. Denver eliminated the Broncos, Browns and Dolphins. That trio joins the Texans, Jets and Jaguars on the outside of the AFC playoff picture.

Packers

With a Packers win over the Vikings and the Cowboys’ loss to the Cardinals, Green Bay has clinched the NFC’s No. 1 seed for the second year in a row. The Packers will have little to play for when they travel to Detroit in Week 18.

Remaining schedule: at DET

Rams

The Rams rallied for a clutch win at Baltimore on Sunday, but Arizona’s win at Dallas prevented the Rams from clinching the NFC West title. The Rams have a worse division record (3-2) than Arizona (4-1), and the two teams split their head-to-head matchups, so divisional record would be the next tiebreaker to decide the NFC West if the Rams and Cardinals finish with identical overall records.

Los Angeles is ahead of Tampa Bay based on the Rams’ head-to-head win in Week 3.

The Rams’ final divisional game is against the 49ers, who tend to give Sean McVay trouble. He is 3-6 all-time against Kyle Shanahan.

Remaining schedule: vs. SF

Buccaneers

Tampa Bay entered Week 17 having already clinched the NFC South and escaped a road game against the Jets with a narrow 28-24 win that featured Antonio Brown removing his uniform and walking off the field mid-game. The Bucs’ final game is against the Panthers, whom they beat 32-6 on the road in Week 16. Tampa Bay could land at the 2, 3 or 4 seed.

Remaining schedule: vs. CAR

Cowboys

A three-point home loss to the Cardinals cost Dallas a shot at the NFC’s top seed. But they still have the NFC East title to rest on.

In terms of tiebreakers with the teams just above them in the standings: The Cowboys lost head-to-head against the Bucs in Week 1, and Dallas’ 9-2 conference record is superior to the Rams’ (8-3).

Remaining schedule: at PHI

Cardinals

Arizona snapped a season-worst three-game losing streak in a meaningful way, beating the Cowboys on the road and thus preventing the Rams from clinching the NFC West. If Arizona is going to win the division, it will need to beat the Seahawks at home and have Rams lose to the 49ers in LA. The Cardinals and Rams split their season series, but the Cardinals would have the superior division record in that scenario.

Remaining schedule: vs. SEA

49ers

San Francisco was fighting for its playoff life Sunday, and it stayed alive with a 23-7 home win vs. the Texans. Trey Lance put up a 116.0 rating with two touchdowns while starting in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo. San Francisco is in the No. 6 position over Philadelphia based on its head-to-head win in Week 2, but the 49ers did not clinch a playoff berth Sunday because the Saints won.

Remaining schedule: at LAR

Eagles

Philadelphia’s running game has powered it to seven wins in its past nine games. The Eagles clinched a playoff berth by beating Washington on Sunday coupled with the Vikings’ loss to the Packers.

With playoff berths assured for both teams, it will be interesting to see how Philadelphia and Dallas approach their regular-season finale.

Remaining schedule: vs. DAL

In the hunt

  • Saints (8-8)

It’s down to New Orleans and San Francisco for the final NFC playoff berth. After losing Sunday, the Falcons, Vikings and Washington Football Team have both been eliminated from playoff contention. The Bears, Panthers, Seahawks, Giants and Lions entered Week 17 already out of the postseason hunt.
