Gulfstream Park Picks

BEST BETS: (Bet 2x normal wager)
Race 3: #7 MIZ Chaplin
Race 4: #2 Rags For Britches
Race 8: #5 RHYTHM SECTION

Bet Top Horse WIN and PLACE.

Exacta Boxes recommended with Top 3 Horses.

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 1: All American Jewel has been racing at a similar level at Tampa and been placed five times in nine starts. A Beautiful Day was racing out of her depth until dropping in class last time where she ran her best race to date so should be kept on the right side down another notch. HALFY has only had two runs and lost her chance at the start in both. Todd Pletcher’s well-bred filly can take this providing she gets away. Dona Camile takes a drop in grade after just two runs but a wide berth makes this difficult.
SELECTIONS: 7-4-2-1

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 2:
First Navy Admiral and Just Right Mile were involved in the opening juvenile race of the campaign here three weeks ago. Neither got close enough to the front pair to mount a challenge but both will have come on a bundle for the experience. The former finished behind but raced wide throughout and can turn the tables. Wesley Ward has two entries here. Breakthrough is the first ever progeny of Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist to race. The stallion was also champion two-year-old in 2015 so his son, a $330,000 yearling, should have bags of pace. Chasing Alfie is the other Ward entry but the vote goes to PRISONER. Todd Pletcher’s youngster, a half-brother to five winners on Dirt, has been blazing the trail in trials and could be a bit special. Another first-timer, Bailey, may prove best of the remainder.
SELECTIONS: 8-2-1-12

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 3: Probably Grace has won twice from five starts including a poor-class contest last time. She’s slightly up a grade but has the pace to get involved from the start. Peace Control won at that same lowly level in January and probably just needed the run in a better contest in March while Blue Blue Ice has won twice around here. Sizzling Roma came from behind to chase the winner home last time but the vote goes to MIZ CHAPLIN, who landed a slightly better claimer over the track and trip before finding 7f stretching her stamina next time. And watch #4 Marching In, for some reason should be on a ticket at 20-1. SELECTIONS: 7-5-4-2

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 4: SEVEN AND SEVEN has had no luck so far for top trainer Dale Romans but takes a big drop in class and this could be the day to show his true worth. Fayez generaly races at a slightly higher level but has never won in 17 starts while Alperes has had one more run and is also a maiden. Rags For Britches keeps running into a place without looking like winning so a chance is taken with MOUNTAIN BREEZE. He made his debut on this track last summer in a $65,000 maiden special weight and though showing little after a slow start takes a massive drop in class.
SELECTIONS: 2-7-8-9

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 5: The Very Speedy R Boy Bode has gained all of his three career victories on Turf and with the inside berth will take some catching. Star Juancho would be regarded as a good bet if this were over 6f on Dirt but he’s never raced on Turf in 27 starts and only once over the trip. Kyle, five times a winner on Dirt, is another making his Turf debut on his 36th start but Chief White Sox loves the surface. NEW YORK’S FINEST is well up to this level and has gained his eight career victories on this surface. He’s not the best drawn but looks the safest option in a tricky event.
SELECTIONS: 9-1-2-5

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 6: Commanding Lady couldn’t go the pace in similar company last time after saying on late in her previous start. Granny Bradley started off with two runs in much better company before dropping in class last time but she had no answer to the winner or runner-up BARDOT(NAP). The latter, who was making her debut, produced a cracking effort and it will be a surprise if she doesn’t make enough progress to go one better. May Day Info and Kozy Dreams were also behind and look held and the latter did the form no harm with a better run next time where she had Lucy’s Interest behind. SELECTIONS: 2-5-6-7

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 7: Tiz Possible Dear landed a similar-class event here last time but had no answer to Enlisting on her previous start. The winner was completing a double and gaining her fifth victory and has moved to a new barn for her hat-trick attempt. Nothins Free has managed to win five times on Dirt and this is her level but NIGHT WATCH is better class than these. However, she’s never raced on Dirt in 22 starts, winning three times in much better company on Turf, so potential punters are taking the risk she handles the surface. SELECTIONS: 5-2-7-8

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 8:  Mandate had been racing at this sort of level before dropping slightly in class to land a maiden claimer on just his fourth start so further progress is likely. Dynadrive, the winner of a better race at Tampa in December, finished just behind Lure Him In when third on his debut here in February and there’s little between them on that form. The former had Montana Man behind when runner-up last time while Uncork The Bottle, who completed a hat-trick in lower grade, has found better company than this beyond him in recent starts. Maserati Man and Blood Moon are well up to this class and would be major players if better berthed but the vote goes to RHYTHM SECTION. By American Pharoah, he made his debut here in February and may have won but for being impeded then went one better on a return visit a month later. SELECTIONS: 5-4-6-1

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 9: This probably depends on the fitness of FLUTE MAKER, who was last seen in a Group 3 at Churchill Downs in September on just his third start. He’d won a $75,000 Saratoga maiden earlier and this is a huge drop in class. Dizzy Sight, a winner at Keeneland in October, would have needed last month’s outing after a break but ran well enough to finish third. Frank First ran poorly on Turf last time though is much better on this surface but Smash didn’t appear to handle the step-up to this level last time after a lower-level victory in January. Jesus’ Team could be the one to take advantage if the selection needs the run as he was very impressive over the track and trip last time. SELECTIONS: 3-6-2-1

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 10: R Happy Ending is in cracking form having finished an excellent third in a $100,000 event at Tampa. This is her surface and she looks certain to go well. Dixieincandyland has won two of her last three and was runner-up in the other while LADY GRACE has been showing blistering pace on the Turf. A winner here a year ago, she returned in January to complete a double so the lack of a recent run won’t be a concern. Hidden Facts takes a drop in class as does Charmaine’s Mia, who had her and Kitten’s Covergirl behind when scoring over the track and trip at the beginning of the year. SELECTIONS: 5-1-3-7

Gulfstream Park Picks Race 11: Todd Pletcher’s newcomer Summer Shore is likely to attract attention as she’s been reported working well but OCEAN FIRE has been knocking on the door and it’s about time she was let in. Bill Mott’s filly has been placed in six of her eight starts to date, all at a higher level, and can finally get off the mark. Florado gave notice of an imminent success when just failing to catch the winner in March but the speedy Noble Alma has been racing in sprints and isn’t certain to stay this far. Quiet Company was behind the latter over 5f here in the spring and is another trying the trip for the first time. SELECTIONS: 1-11-2-5
