The 2019 NFL season doesn’t officially start until September, but the NFL has truly become a year-round league over the years – especially when it comes to sports betting.
As football bettors eagerly await the Week 1 season opener between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears, oddsmakers are busy preparing some prop specials.
Online sportsbook BetOnline has released odds for NFL teams to make the playoffs in 2019, which you can find below. The only team that wasn’t listed at the time of writing was the Arizona Cardinals.
Here’s a look at some of the teams that are on the bubble to make the postseason:
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers have been the class of the AFC North for quite some time, but they came up short in 2018 in the form of a 9-6-1 SU record while narrowly missing out on the playoffs.
With Le’Veon Bell joining the New York Jets in free agency and Antonio Brown shipped off to Oakland via trade, the odds of Pittsburgh making the playoffs in 2019 sit at +100, with the chances of them missing out for the second straight year the favored option at -130.
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys find themselves in nearly the same situation as the Steelers on the list (-130 to miss the playoffs, +110 to make the playoffs), and that’s a bit surprising to me considering the state of the NFC East.
While the Philadelphia Eagles should remain competitive, the New York Giants and Washington Redskins will have their work cut out for them in 2019, so the chances of the Cowboys attaining a wild-card spot at the least look solid in my eyes.
Green Bay Packers
It’s been tough sledding for Packers fans over the past few years, but the franchise appears to be moving in the right direction. Sean McVay disciple Matt LaFleur was brought in as the team’s new head coach, while general manager Brian Gutekunst completely revamped the defense through free agency and the draft.
Green Bay is -130 to get back to the postseason and +110 to miss it for a third straight year. In my eyes, there’s significant value on the YES option for the green and gold.
