No. 1 Alabama (-20.5) at Texas, Saturday, Noon (Fox)

Steve Sarkisian has an inexperienced QB and not enough athletes on defense to keep up with his old boss, Nick Saban.

Alabama 44, Texas 20
Pick: Alabama -20.5

South Carolina at No. 16 Arkansas (-8.5), Noon (ESPN)

The Hogs are talented enough on defense to slow down Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks, and K.J. Jefferson will present too many problems for Carolina to get a tough road win.

Arkansas 31, South Carolina 20
Pick: Arkansas -8

No. 24 Tennessee (-6.5) at No. 17 Pitt, 3:30 p.m. (ABC)

The hunch here is that the Panthers may have a hard time coming out the gate with two crisp performances against tough opponents. The Vols with Hendon Hooker have a little too much firepower.

Tennessee 30, Pitt 21
Pick: Tennessee -6

Washington State at No. 19 Wisconsin (-17.5), 3:30 p.m. (Fox)

It’s the first big FBS test for Cam Ward, against a terrific Jim Leonhard defense on the road. I think it’ll be a mixed bag for him and Braelon Allen will give the Cougars fits because of the Badgers’ physicality.

Wisconsin 35, Washington State 24
Pick: Washington State +17.5

Appalachian State at No. 6 Texas A&M (-18.5), 3:30 p.m. (ESPN2)

App gave up a ton of points in a wild home game last week against UNC. I’m not sure they bounce back enough to play four good quarters in College Station against a more physical team.

Texas A&M 45, Appalachian State 23
Pick: Texas A&M -18.5

Iowa State at Iowa (-3.5), 4 p.m., BTN

The Hawkeyes offense looked dreadful last week and I think that is a sign to come. I’ll back the points here.

Iowa State 17 Iowa 14
Pick: Iowa St +3.5

No. 20 Kentucky at No. 12 Florida (-6), 7 p.m. (ESPN)

I’m not getting off the Anthony Richardson bandwagon now. I like Will Levis a lot too, but I don’t think he has as good a supporting cast. He also really struggled away from Lexington last year, posting a 6-6 TD-INT ratio compared to 18-7 at home.

Florida 30, Kentucky 20
Pick: Florida -6

No. 10 USC (-8.5) at Stanford, 7:30 p.m. (ABC)

I like Tanner McKee and Stanford has pretty good skill talent, but USC has a lot more juice and will come at the Cardinal in waves.

USC 49, Stanford 28
Pick: USC -8.5

No. 9 Baylor at No. 21 BYU (-3), 10:15 p.m. (ESPN)

The Jeff Grimes Bowl. I almost picked BYU to beat the Bears here but I think the Ron Roberts/Dave Aranda defense will be too strong up front and take over the game in the second half.

Baylor 24, BYU 20
Pick: Baylor +3

Mississippi State (-10.5) at Arizona, 11 p.m. (FS1)

Fun, wild game coming between two head coaches who didn’t play college football and both with strong Steve Spurrier ties. Expect a wild one. Both teams have good QBs and good wideouts. Leach and the Bulldogs have more experience in these kinds of shootouts, but it’ll be close.

Mississippi State 51, Arizona 48
Pick: Arizona +10.5

This week’s upset special: Houston at Texas Tech (-3.5), 4 p.m. (FS1)

Dana Holgorsen returns to Lubbock with a terrific QB and a lot of talent at wideout. I think they’ll be a little too much for the Red Raiders, although I do like Tech backup QB Donovan Smith. He’s a name to remember.

Houston 34, Texas Tech 30
Pick: Houston +3.5
