The UTEP Miners and Boise State Broncos face off on Friday in Week 2 of the college football season at Albertsons Stadium. The last time these two teams faced off was in 2004 and Boise State came away with the 47-31 victory.

The Boise State Broncos had some big changes this offseason with Andy Avalos taking over as the head coach. Boise State opened up their season against the UCF Knights and it looked like a game they might dominate. Boise State opened up the game with a 14-0 lead but then the defense fell apart late and that led to the 36-31 defeat. Under center for Boise State is Hank Bachmeier and against the Knights, he threw for 263 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. One issue for Boise State is they couldn’t get a running game going, and they finished with only 63 yards. The best wide receiver in the first game was Khalil Shakir who finished with five receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Boise State couldn’t stop the ball through the air or on the ground.

On the other side of this matchup is the UTEP Miners who are one of the teams who have already played two games this year. UTEP opened up their season against New Mexico State 30-3 and followed that up with a victory over Bethune Cookman 38-28. Under center for UTEP is Gavin Henderson and he has played well so far this year including the first game where he threw for 249 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Ronald Await has also had a big year rushing for over 200 yards and two touchdowns. In the last game the defense wasn’t as strong for UTEP giving up 28 points, and in this game, Boise State is going to need the defense to be a whole lot better.
