It’s the continuation of a series between a pair of National League foes in the nation’s capital. The San Diego Padres are on the road for the middle game of a three game set with the Washington Nationals Tuesday night. San Diego took three of four on the road from the Pirates over the weekend, winning the finale of the set 8-5 Sunday afternoon. Washington was swept in a three game series at home, losing 7-2 on Sunday to close that series. The pitching matchup for Monday’s series opener saw Robbie Erlin take the mound for San Diego against Washington’s Gio Gonzalez. First pitch in the contest was set for 7:05 pm ET.
Washington had a miserable series against the Dodgers and needs to bounce back as they face the Padres. The Nationals have been ravaged by injuries and recalled Juan Soto from the minors. He hit 14 homers in the minors this season but his 31 at-bats at Double-A Harrisburg of the Eastern League marks the total of his at-bats above Single-A in his young career. San Diego is dealing with an inexperienced arm on the mound and Hellickson has been very good this season. Look for the Nationals to pick up the win in this contest.
