Archived: MLB Stock Report: Start Betting Marlins, Orioles & others

Jun 21, 2018 EST

The MLB season is almost 4 Months in. So, who should bet & who should you bet against? Check out the Latest OTL Baseball Stock Report!

Buy:

1. New York Yankees:

The first team’s stock that appears prime to be bought this week is the New York Yankees.

Obviously, I am not reinventing the wheel by recommending you to buying a team who is 47-22 and on pace to win 111 games. However, this Yankee team is actually even better than their .681 winning percentage indicates and they actually have the tools to break the 2001 Seattle Mariners’ record of 116 wins.

The brightest sign that the best is yet to come for the 2018 Yankees is that the offense has actually underachieved. This is both incredible and terrifying. Think about this, the Yankees are on pace to break the single season record for most home runs in a season at 268 yet this offense is still underachieving. The Yankee lineup is long and full of All-Star level hitters yet they all haven’t been in sync yet. To start the season, Didi Gregorius was the one doing the heavy lifting. Then it was Aaron Judge and Brett Gardner’s turn. After them, Gleyber Torres was the one who got hot and he has yet to slow down. The only consistent hitter in the lineup this year has been the surprising rookie Miguel Andujar. Star hitters Gary Sanchez, Giancarlo Stanton, and Greg Bird have underachieved, but they are all too good of hitters to not improve. If just 75% of the lineup can just get in sync for a stretch of time, this team will be close to unbeatable.

Buy the Yankee stock immediately and ride them all the way to over 115 wins this season.

2. Cincinnati Reds:

The second team that I am looking to buy the stock of this week is the Cincinnati Reds. Now, I am not buying this team as one that will get back in the division race and make the playoffs. I am buying the Reds as a team who is better than their record indicates and one that should outplay their current .366 win percentage.

The Reds got off to an abysmal 8-27 start and they were giving off the fatal “Bad News Bears” type of vibe where nothing seemed to be going right. Since then, the Reds have gone 18-18 and have resembled a competitive .500 team that accurately reflects their talent level.

3. Baltimore Orioles:

The third that we are backing is the Baltimore Orioles, who’s lineup has obviously not performed well in the 1st half of baseball. But this team has the tools to win and will be getting tremendous value over the course of the rest of the season.

4. Houston Astros: The Astros are not just winning, but winning easily. They are a must bet for the rest of the season. And check this out. Forget the moneyline if you don’t want to lay the bigger prices. The Astros offer great value as well on the RUNLINE. They have covered the RunLine in 43 out of their 50 Wins!

5. Marlins – Young Talent starting to play well. Will be underdogs in most spots and are great value bet.

Sell:

Toronto Blue Jays

The team that I am looking to sell this week is the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays currently sit at 33-38 and are coming off an impressive series sweep of the Washington Nationals. However, this is likely their high point of the season and makes it a perfect time to sell the Blue Jays’ stock.

The Blue Jays came into this season with hopes of competing in the AL East thanks to the potential of their young pitching. That has not been the case so far as their supposed top young pitchers, Marco Stroman and Aaron Sanchez, have struggled mightily. Stroman is currently injured, but even when he was healthy he had an ERA that was over 7. Sanchez has also not been the pitcher he was expected to be as his ERA is well over 4 and has been walking way too many batters. Their most consistent pitcher has been J.A. Happ, but he will likely get traded soon since he is an upcoming free agent. With the loss of Happ and the continued inconsistency from their top guns, the Blue Jays’ pitching staff can be expected to bottom out this season.

In recent years, the Blue Jays offense had been one of the best in the league. This year, the offense has taken a huge step back and unfortunately it looks like they are going to get even worse. Star hitter Josh Donaldson has not been himself as his batting average sits at .234. It is tough to say if this average is due for any positive regression since it likely depends on the way his calf heals. Once healthy, Donaldson will likely be traded since top prospect Vlad Guerrero Jr. plays the same position as him. Donaldson’s absence has not been the only issue this offense has had as they have yet to get any solid contributions from Justin Smoak or Kendrys Morales and their only consistent hitter has been Yangervis Solarte. However, Solartes’ long-term production worries me since he has been a journeyman his whole career and has never put up these types of numbers. Once Solarte begins to regress, this offense could become the worst in the league.

Blue Jays’ manager John Gibbons has also had problems reaching his team this season. Gibbons has already called for two separate team meetings after losses and both times the team responded the next game with poor effort. This may not seem like a huge issue on the surface, but it can be a telling sign that a manager has lost the locker room when the team doesn’t pick up their play after getting called out in a meeting.

The Blue Jays value is currently at its highest after the sweep over the Nationals and they will soon begin a plunge into the bottom of the American League standings. The failing pitching staff, the lack of consistent hitting, and the toxic locker room are all strong reasons to sell any Blue Jay stock you might have at this ideal time.

OTHER SELLERS:
San Diego Padres – Let’s see what their record is in a few weeks. Just not enough talent nor do they offer bettors any value.

Twins – Overvalued in Sportsbooks. They are currently 33-37 but lately have been burning money at sportsbooks. 5-5 the past 10 and going forward do not offer much value.

Royals – Keep Fading this team.

NY Mets – Has no offense and has been playing horrible the past 6 Weeks after Hot Start. That Hot start still has bettors thinking Mets are a solid team so linemakers still giving credit which offers great go against value.
