The NFC North will be a very competitive division this year. Minnesota figures to be the top team again, but Green Bay gets a healthy Aaron Rodgers back. Detroit and Chicago are in the mix and each has players that will make things interesting. Let’s take a look at the South Point sportsbook’s win totals for this coming season and if there’s any value when it comes to the over/under for each NFC North team.

Chicago Bears

Over 7 wins +115…Under 7 wins -135

Offense: Mitchell Trubisky has some weapons this year and that should help his sophomore season. The signal-caller had his ups and his downs in 2017. Allen Robinson is playing for a nice contract as he tries to prove to everyone that he’s healthy. Rookie Anthony Miller is doing very well in the slot in training camp while Taylor Gabriel tries to show he can do things without Julio Jones. Trey Burton made a name for himself in the Super Bowl and made some money in the process. Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen are a solid combination of power and quickness out of the backfield.

Defense: The numbers actually showed that this side of the ball wasn’t as bad as the record. The group finished 10th in the league in total defense. Because of that they didn’t make too many changes other than drafting linebacker Roquan Smith, who finally signed and reported to camp. Akiem Hicks was very good last year. Leonard Floyd is going to have to show people a little more with the losses of Pernell McPhee and Willie Young. Kyle Fuller and Prince Amukamara are the corners.

Verdict: New head coach Matt Nagy is generating a lot of excitement in and related to the franchise. The offense has a chance to catch up to the defense and make things interesting towards the bottom of the division. Last year, the Bears knocked off Pittsburgh and Carolina. Improvement is coming, but the record may not show it with games against the AFC East and the NFC West.

Detroit Lions

Over 8 wins +110…Under 8 wins -130

Offense: LeGarrette Blount comes over to Detroit in hopes of providing a spark to the running game. Blount will be part of a backfield mix that also includes Ameer Abdullah, Theo Riddick and maybe even rookie Kerryon Johnson. A ground game is very important so Matthew Stafford doesn’t have to throw it 50 times every game. Marvin Jones and Golden Tate are back and make a solid wide receiver duo. There’s not a ton behind them other than Kenny Golladay, who flashed at times as a rookie.

Defense: Paul Pasqualoni is the team’s new defensive coordinator. This side of the ball will really feel the influence of new head coach Matt Patricia, who had plenty of success as New England’s defensive coordinator despite a lack of talent. Here he’s got building blocks in defensive end Ezekiel Ansah and cornerback Darius Slay. Anthony Zettel and Kerry Hyder need to provide more of a pass rush up front along with A’Shawn Robinson. This unit needs to find more playmakers.

Verdict: The first eight weeks of the season Detroit alternates home and road games with tilts against the Patriots, Packers and Seahawks all at home. They do have three straight in Detroit in November, but close out with three of four on the road. There could be some growing pains with Patricia as head coach so it’ll be interesting to see if this team can overcome that. If the Lions can run it with some effectiveness, then they could be a surprise. Since I don’t think they will, I’ll take the under here.

Green Bay Packers

Over 10 wins EVEN…Under 10 wins -120

Offense: Aaron Rodgers will be on a mission after last year’s debacle. The team still doesn’t have a great backup plan for him, but no one will be able to run the offense as well as him. Jimmy Graham is going to be a very interesting chess piece that the team can use especially in the red zone where Rodgers hasn’t had a tight end of this caliber in a while. No Jordy Nelson, but Davante Adams and Randall Cobb return. The hype train has been rolling with J’Mon Moore, who is among the many young receivers trying to earn a roster spot and carve out a role.

Defense: It’ll be very interesting to see if Muhammad Wilkerson can put his season with the Jets behind him. Wilkerson has a ton of talent but his motivation has been questioned at times. The team drafted several cornerbacks in Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson and hope that one or both can help them at a position of need. Tramon Williams is back with the team, but I don’t know if he’s actually the answer. I like the linebackers led by Clay Matthews but depth could be an issue following the torn ACL suffered by starter Jake Ryan. Overall, this defense is getting younger and should be improved under new coordinator Mike Pettine.

Verdict: The team has a roller-coaster schedule. While the Packers do get a home friendly start to things, they will travel to Los Angeles, New England, Seattle and Minnesota over a five-week span. As long as Rodgers is healthy, they have a shot to make the playoffs and do some damage. The defense is improving as well. I don’t really have a lean here although if the youth comes together, the over is worth a look at that price.

Minnesota Vikings

Over 10 wins -130…Under 10 wins +110

Offense: The addition of Kirk Cousins propels this team into the mix for best team in the NFC. Cousins’ ability to keep the chains moving will be a big help to the Vikings, who relied on Case Keenum last year. Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray are the top two at running back and Minnesota is hoping that Cook can return to what he was last season before tearing his ACL in Week 4. Adam Thielen was a revelation in 2017 and Stefon Diggs will forever be known for his catch against the Saints in the playoffs. There aren’t too many holes on this side of the ball.

Defense: One of the better defensive lines in football got better as the team added Sheldon Richardson. He will join an impressive group that also includes Everson Griffen, Danielle Hunter, Linval Joseph and Brian Robison. Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks are two very good young linebackers. Xavier Rhodes is a lockdown corner while Trae Waynes is a youngster on the rise and safeties Harrison Smith and Andrew Sendejo are rock-solid. This group had a great season last year and needs to prove that the undressing they took in Philadelphia last year wasn’t an accurate representation of the unit.

Verdict: Minnesota fans are expecting big things after coming up short in 2017. The Vikings were one game away from a home Super Bowl that they felt they were destined to play in. The team’s toughest games are on the road at Green Bay, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and New England. Minnesota hosts New Orleans in Week 8 for a playoff rematch with plenty of intrigue. I’d probably look at the over, but not at that price.
